Inspections
It is the responsibility of the property owner to make sure that all necessary inspections are performed. Inspections must be requested at least one working day prior to the day the inspection is to take place. When calling to schedule an inspection, you must have the permit number. In addition, the approved plans and permit card must be onsite and available for the inspector.
The inspections that are required by McHenry County are as follows:
- FOOTING-prior to pouring any concrete
- BACKFILL-prior to placing any fill material around the foundation
- SLAB PLUMBING-prior to pouring the basement floor
- ELECTRIC SERVICE- prior Com Ed Connection
- ROUGH FRAMING, ELECTRIC & HVAC-prior to insulating and drywalling
- ROUGH PLUMBING-prior to insulating and drywalling
- FINAL-upon completion of work
When a permit is issued, the property owner/contractor is provided with a detailed list of inspections that will be required for that particular permit. If at any time an additional inspection is requested by the owner/contractor, an added fee may be charged.

FOIA Requests may be submitted via fax, mail or in person.
Reporting Violations (Complaints)
When a complaint is received from a concerned citizen an inspection of the property is conducted and it is determined If a violation exists. If a violation exists, a letter is sent to the property owner allowing them the opportunity to correct the situation. If the owner does not respond to violation notices then an Ordinance Violation is filed and a court date is scheduled.
