The McHenry County Department of Planning & Development is responsible for acceptance, review, issuance and inspection of all building and sign permits, motel licenses, etc. issued within the unincorporated area of McHenry County.

The primary responsibility of all building, zoning and floodplain codes and ordinances rests with this division. Service to residence of the County is provided with regard to building codes, plan review of construction documents, inspection of construction, response to complaints (written and/or verbal)response to questions regarding zoning, floodplain, wetlands, subdivision of land,
drainage issues, etc. over the counter.
