REQUEST ZONING
We do not provide zoning over the phone. Requests for zoning must be made in person or in writing, which includes e-mail. To get zoning information for any unincorporated parcel in McHenry County, all that is needed is the Parcel Identification Number (PIN) along with your name and e-mail address sent to the e-mail address below. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response (weekends and holidays excluded).

Please Note: This service is limited to the current zoning of a parcel only.No response will be provided regarding buildability, setbacks, flood plains, wetlands, building additions, or septic field locations. Contact our department at 815-334-4560 for more information about these issues.
Don't know your PIN?
If you are looking for zoning on a parcel you are considering purchasing, a real estate agent should have the PIN. If this is your own property, the PIN is also the first 10 digits of your property's tax ID number. Otherwise, a property's PIN can be obtained through the McHenry County Office of Assessments.
Or, you can search for a PIN using the County’s online GIS map called Athena. Just click "search" and type in the road name, address, or even the subdivision name to find your parcel. Once you have found the parcel, click “Identify” to get the PIN and other information about the parcel. By clicking on the tab “Add More Information,” you can select to view an aerial photo to help confirm you have found the parcel you are searching for. You can even print out your own county maps.
